Hello Autumn!

As we wave goodbye to summer and start to welcome in Autumn, it can be a time of reflection for many with the new academic year having begun for our young people. An adjustment time as we begin a new chapter (for the young people and adults in their lives). Primary, secondary school, college, uni, gap years, entering the world of work…so many potential changes.

And just as the seasons shift, our routines and rhythms shift too. Moving from the freedom of summer into the structure of autumn can stir up mixed feelings—anticipation, worry, or even grief for what’s ending. All of these responses are valid. Gentle routines, grounding rituals, and self-compassion can help us navigate the in-between.

Autumn reminds us that change can be both beautiful and challenging. If you’re noticing stress as schedules pick up or routines shift, it’s a sign that your nervous system is adjusting—not that you’re failing. Small daily anchors (breathing breaks, journaling, or mindful walks) can make transitions feel more manageable

Just like leaves turning, we too change with the seasons. If this new academic year feels overwhelming, know that it’s natural to need time to adapt. Try focusing on one thing you can carry with you from summer that brings calm - whether it’s unstructured play, time outdoors, or moments of rest. You’ve got this young people, parents, caregivers, teachers, academics….
